North Eastern States of India, also known as land of seven sisters, are of great strategic importance to India, because of the terrain of the area. The boundaries of the states, within the region, run along the borders of China, Tibet, Bhutan, Myanmar and Bangladesh. Moreover, the region, due to abundance of forest and mountains, remained aloof and unexplored from the rest of the country for a long
period.
All the states of the region were formed out of the division of Assam. The region consisting of the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura is full of spectacular natural beauty and wildlife.
Through ‘Northeastern Indiastat e-Yearbook –2012’ the statistics and figures for the states of Northeast on the basis of various indicators are provided under various heads.
